Country Biscuits

Total Time: 27 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 (1/4 ounce) package yeast
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening or 1/3 cup lard
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup wheat chex cereal

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 375f and grease baking sheet.
  • 2 soften yeast in water.
  • 3 sift flour sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a medium sized bowl.
  • 4 cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  • 5 pour buttermilk over cereal; mix well.
  • 6 add to dry ingredients with yeast mixture.
  • 7 mix just until well-moistened.
  • 8 drop by heaping tablespoons two inches apart on prepared baking sheet.
  • 9 bake 12 to 14 minutes, or until golden.
  • 10 serve warm.
