Buttermilk Biscuits

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 3/4-1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine, melted

Recipe

  • 1 stir together first four ingredients in a large bowl cut 1/4 cup butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender until crumbly; add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  • 2 turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2 inch round cutter.
  • 3 place 2 tbsp butter in a 10 1/2 inch cast iron skillet.
  • 4 place skillet in 350 degree oven 5 minutes or until butter melts.
  • 5 remove skillet from oven, and add biscuits.
  • 6 bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden.
  • 7 brush biscuits with 2 tbsp melted butter.
