Buttermilk Biscuits

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Recipe

  • 1 set aside 1/4 cup of the flour.
  • 2 cut shortening into remaining flour.
  • 3 add soda to buttermilk, and stir into flour mixture.
  • 4 use the 1/4 cup flour you set aside to flour board or counter and knead the dough.
  • 5 when the dough is easier to work with, roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. (don't knead long at all, it will make the biscuits tough.).
  • 6 cut with floured round cutter. bake at 400 degrees f until brown - about 10-12 minutes.
  • 7 note: i have made these ahead and refrigerated or frozen them.
