Angel Biscuits

Total Time: 22 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees f/45 degrees c)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Recipe

  • 1 dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • 2 sift together flour, sugar, soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • 3 add buttermilk and dissolved yeast.
  • 4 add shortening and stir.
  • 5 store dough, covered, in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  • 6 roll out on a lightly floured surface or shape into balls; these do not need to rise.
  • 7 brush tops of biscuits with melted butter.
  • 8 bake at 400 degrees fahrenheit (205 degrees celsius) for 15 to 20 minutes.
