Ingredients
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees f/45 degrees c)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Recipe
- 1 dissolve yeast in warm water.
- 2 sift together flour, sugar, soda, baking powder, and salt.
- 3 add buttermilk and dissolved yeast.
- 4 add shortening and stir.
- 5 store dough, covered, in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- 6 roll out on a lightly floured surface or shape into balls; these do not need to rise.
- 7 brush tops of biscuits with melted butter.
- 8 bake at 400 degrees fahrenheit (205 degrees celsius) for 15 to 20 minutes.
